Low testosterone treatment stroke, heart attack, death lawyer

Axiron is a medication prescribed to treat low testosterone. Testosterone is the hormone necessary for developing masculine characteristics. The low-t product, which is manufacturer by global pharmaceutical corporation Eli Lilly & Company, is applied like deodorant to the underarm in order to increase testosterone levels. Low-T products like Axiron have become increasingly popular due to widespread marketing campaigns encouraging men to take the drugs.

The testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) drugs target men who’ve experienced symptoms associated with lower testosterone levels including sleeplessness, irritability, decreased sex drive, depression, and emotional disruptions.

Although drug makers are not legally responsible for some side effects if they provide proper warnings, the makers of low testosterone drugs did not provide proper warnings about the elevated risk of heart attack, stroke, and death that medical studies have linked to low-T products.

What did the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) state about low-T drugs like Axiron?

On Jan. 31, 2014, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a safety announcement informing the public that the federal government agency is investigating the risk of stroke, heart attack, and death in men taking FDA-approved low-testosterone products. Axiron is an FDA-approved low-testosterone product and accordingly, part of the investigation. The FDA recommends that patients taking Axiron should not stop without discussing any concerns with their doctor.

What have medical studies found about the health risks of low testosterone products like Axiron?

Several recent medical studies have scrutinized low-T products like Axiron and made some startling findings:

Testosterone study was canceled after an inordinately high number of men in the study taking testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) drugs suffered health problems. 2010, New England Journal of Medicine, “Adverse Events Associated with Testosterone Administration.”

Medical study: low testosterone replacement therapy increased the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death by approximately 30%. 2013, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), “Association of Testosterone Therapy with Mortality, Myocardial Infarction, and Stroke in Men with Low Testosterone Levels.”

Medical study finds that low testosterone medication drugs doubled the risk of heart attack in men older than 65 and men younger than 65 with prior heart conditions. 2014, PLOS ONE (Public Library of Science’s open access peer-reviewed scientific journal), “Increased Risk of Non-Fatal Myocardial Infarction Following Testosterone Therapy Prescription in Men.”
